PEOPLE CENTRED HERITAGE: EPISODE 5 // KIM WATSON - Mount Victoria Railway
In this stunning video, Kim Watson takes us on a journey – a railway journey – through the Blue Mountains, beginning in the mid-nineteenth century.
Mount Victoria Railway station has state significance for its crucial role in the development of the railways over the Blue Mountains, being on an early line constructed in the 1860s. Mount Victoria Station is unique for its diverse collection of railway infrastructure buildings.
“On a professional level I gained a lot – it was a complex 5-year project covering almost everything from photographic archival recording to a moveable heritage audit to interpretation and then conservation. Such an interesting site to come to terms with and understand because so much happened here – it covers a lot of rail history. It really shows us the importance of the historical facts and getting the resources right” Kim explains.
