PEOPLE CENTRED HERITAGE: EPISODE 7 // Gabrielle Harrington & Kim Watson - Cumberland LGA

“The whole team gained a real understanding of the social and cultural ties that local residents have to the area. It was so rewarding to be able to explore the layered history and diversity of the site, which really makes Cumberland LGA what it is today and will continue to be.”
- Gabrielle Harrington & Kim Watson

The aim of the Cumberland LGA heritage study was to review and assess over 300 heritage items located there. The Cumberland region reflects many layers of our history, but the focus of our study was industrial heritage, historical vernacular architecture, historical archaeological sites, and cultural and natural landscapes. Extent Heritage collated an enormous body of data gathered through desktop research and fieldwork, to identify and assess the heritage places, laying the foundation for the council to appropriately manage them into the future.
