The Kokoda Track, Papua New Guinea - Archaeology and Historical Research
CONSERVING AUSTRALIAN HERITAGE OVERSEAS
The Project
Extent Heritage undertook archaeological surveys and site recording on the iconic Kokoda Track, Papua New Guinea. Our work identified over three hundred sites illustrating its World War II history, including weapon pits and battlefield artefacts. We prepared a conservation management plan to guide the future management of the site.
Value Unlocked
Extent Heritage played an important part in the development of a policy framework and action plan for the ongoing conservation of an iconic heritage place with significance to not just Australians but also the people of Papua New Guinea, America and Japan.
