PROFESSOR LUCY TAKSA APPOINTED TO THE EXTENT HERITAGE BOARD
Extent Heritage is excited to announce the appointment of Lucy Taksa to the Extent Heritage Board.
Lucy is a Professor of Management in the Deakin Business School at Deakin University, and has a long history as a heritage professional. She spent six years as the Chair of the NSW State Records and Archives Board, and has worked extensively as a consultant historian on various heritage projects.
Lucy was also a Secretary, Vice President and President of the Australian Society for the Study of Labour History between 1990 and 2009, the founding executive member of the History Council of NSW in 1996, and its President in 2001. She is passionate about researching the history of working lives, workplace and labour cultures, and industrial heritage, including on migrant and women workers.
“Heritage is really about identifying the connections between material culture and less tangible things—people, their memories and their ideas,” says Lucy.
“Years ago someone said to me that ‘bricks and mortar alone don’t tell the story, you have to fill it with people’s lives.’ I agree with that. What makes ‘history’ is really the passions and the attachments—they’re as important as the material remains”.
As a non-executive Board Member, Lucy will play a key part in the governance of the organisation. Her broad knowledge of business practice and expertise in organisational change and transformation will be invaluable to Extent Heritage in this time of growth for the company.
“Lucy is a great asset for the Extent Heritage Board,” says Dr Andrew Sneddon, Director of Extent Heritage. “She brings both a practical and academic eye to how we approach issues and implement solutions.”
