ICOMOS GA2023 - Introducing the Extent Heritage Memoryscapes Project!

Extent Heritage is proud to be an Opal Patron of this year’s ICOMOS General Assembly, as well as the principal sponsor of the Knowledge Café.

Every three years, the ICOMOS GA welcomes delegates from all over the world. This year, an expected 1500 professionals will converge on Sydney, from the fields of heritage, archaeology, history, architecture and beyond.

It’s the first time the event has been held in the Pacific region, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for global practitioners to learn from one another and to promote heritage practice in Australia and internationally.

This year’s theme is ‘Heritage Changes’ with sub-themes ‘Resilience’, ‘Responsibility’, ‘Rights’ and ‘Relationships’.

‘Heritage is an ever-changing field because people change,’ says Extent Heritage CEO and former Australia ICOMOS President Ian Travers. Ian had an active role in bringing the GA to Australia during his presidency in 2017.

‘The themes of this GA are people-centric, which is exactly how we approach heritage management. Understanding the experiences and perspectives of people, then and now, is what we are most passionate about.’

To align with these themes, we have created our Memoryscapes project!

Places embody memories. The street that you grew up in. The beach where you had your first kiss. The kitchen where you baked scones with grandma. Together they make a memoryscape.

Join us at the Extent Heritage Knowledge Café where we invite you to add a memory of a place to the branches of our tree, in exchange for a small token of our gratitude.

We look forward to seeing our tree of memories grow and bloom!

Special thanks to Lucy WelshLeo Martin and Ian Ostericher from our Melbourne team for sharing their special memories.
