Due to COVID-19 the 20th Triennial General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of ICOMOS (ICOMOS GA2020) to be held in Sydney in October this year was cancelled. As Opal Partners for the 2020 event, Extent were looking forward to welcoming colleagues from across the globe and while we’re disappointed that 2020 will not be the year, we’re delighted that the ICOMOS Board has determined that the 21st triennial General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of ICOMOS will be hosted by Australia ICOMOS in Sydney in September 2023.

Australia ICOMOS will host an online ‘marker’ event in October 2020 to acknowledge the enormous support and goodwill shown towards the planning of GA2020 and all eyes are now on September 2023 for this globally significant event.

Helen Lardner, President said “Australia ICOMOS thanks the ICOMOS Board and our many international friends for their support. With the generous assistance of the Australian and NSW State Governments and the City of Sydney, we are thrilled to bring an ICOMOS General Assembly to the Pacific region for the first time.”

Indeed our very own Ian Travers was President of Australia ICOMOS when they won the right to host this General Assembly and Scientific Symposium.

And with that, we applaud Australia ICOMOS for pursuing the opportunity and committing further to 2023. Extent are also proud to reaffirm our commitment to GA2023 with Opal Level funding support and further contributions as an integral part of the program.

More details will be added to this post as releases are made.
