Extent announces Opal partnership with ICOMOS GA 2020

We’re proud to announce our Opal partnership with the 20th Triennial General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of ICOMOS (ICOMOS GA2020) to be held on the doorstep of our Sydney office at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour and a range of sites across the city including Cockatoo Island and the Sydney Opera House.

This is the first time this event has been held in Sydney and Extent’s own Ian Travers, who has until recently been President of ICOMOS Australia, is proud that this global event has been attracted to our shores together with well over 1000 delegates.

Happening in October 2020, the theme of the event is ‘Shared Cultures - Shared Heritage - Shared Responsibility’. Extent Heritage will be presenting a knowledge cafe and collaborating on some key activities for our international delegates.

More news to come as the date nears.

Who are ICOMOS?

ICOMOS (the International Council on Monuments and Sites) is a global organisation of cultural heritage professionals with its headquarters in Paris, which serves as the principal advisory body on cultural heritage to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. ICOMOS has over 9,500 members and more than 110 National Committees throughout the world.

ICOMOS works for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage places. It is the only global non-government organisation of this kind, which is dedicated to promoting the application of theory, methodology, and scientific techniques to the conservation of the architectural and archaeological heritage.

The ICOMOS network of experts benefits from the interdisciplinary exchange of its members, among which are architects, historians, archaeologists, art historians, geographers, anthropologists, engineers and town planners.

Members of ICOMOS contribute to improving the conservation of heritage, the standards and the techniques for each type of cultural heritage property: buildings, historic cities, cultural landscapes and archaeological sites.
