Heritage advisor - aboriginal archaeology
Extent Heritage’s Brisbane office is growing and has multiple Heritage Advisor positions available within the archaeology team. Experience levels for these positions suit a recent graduate to someone with 3 to 5 years of experience. We are also seeking Heritage Advisors with experience in GIS or with a desire to learn the skill from our experienced geospatial team.
The Heritage Advisor is responsible for carrying out a range of commercial consultancy projects, requiring skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, client liaison, archaeological assessment and excavation, and reporting.This position will suit a highly motivated individual with some level of research, writing, analytical, project management and technical skills, who enjoys working in a close-knit, supportive team environment. An understanding of Queensland heritage legislation is desirable.
Essential Criteria
The following criteria are considered essential:
Appropriate degree (anthropology, archaeology, history, heritage studies, as appropriate) with Honours or equivalent
Recent graduate to three or more years’ experience in consulting or equivalent professional practice
Demonstrated experience in client liaison, project management, directing project teams, working to deadlines within budget constraints, engaging and managing subcontractors (criteria desirable but not essential for recent graduates)
Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal cultural heritage management in Australia (criteria desirable but not essential for recent graduates)
Demonstrated experience in Aboriginal community consultation (criteria desirable but not essential for recent graduates)
Demonstrated experience in field investigations and recording, research and impact assessment
Sound knowledge of principles and best practice guidelines as outlined in the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter
Knowledge of relevant Queensland and Commonwealth legislation
Demonstrated ability to meet Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental requirements (criteria desirable but not essential for recent graduates)
Demonstrated ability to prepare assessment and management reports to a high professional standard (criteria desirable but not essential for recent graduates)
Valid Australian Drivers’ licence
Construction Industry Safety Induction (White Card) – or a willingness to obtain one
Desirable Criteria
The following criteria will be considered favourably:
Active research interests and involvement with professional bodies
Specialist skills such as artefact analysis, GIS, surveying, geomorphology, geoarchaeology, geochronology, historical research, archival photographic recording and/or heritage interpretation
Demonstrated experience conducting Aboriginal cultural values mapping, surveys and/or assessments
