Dr Alex Parmington has a PhD in Archaeology and fifteen years’ experience in Cultural Heritage Management and archaeological research, both in Australia and abroad, including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Belize.
Locally, he has a long track record of working directly with Aboriginal communities from around Victoria, including eleven years with Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation as a Project Manager, Heritage (RAP) Manager, and later their CEO.
Before joining Extent Heritage, Alex was employed by Taungurung Land and Waters Council as their Heritage (RAP) Manager. Alex is a research Associate (Hon.) in La Trobe University’s Archaeology Program in Melbourne. He has written and contributed to many management plans and reports, including excavation surveys and Heritage Management reports in Victoria and Central America, for clients and organisations such as the Minesterio de Cultura y Deportes de Guatemala, the Instituto de Antropología e Historia de Guatemala, the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, and Cambridge University Press. He has also written articles published by organisations and journals including Popular Archaeology.
